The Importance of TikTok
Unless you’ve spent the last few years living under a rock, you will have no doubt heard of TikTok; the not-so-new kid on the block. It burst onto the scene and has sent waves across the web, and it hasn’t slowed yet. It continues to change the way we consume and create content, not only for us but for other social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, which are scrambling to keep up with it.
If you haven’t tried your hand at TikTok, the best time to start is now! Take the time to learn its inner workings, and start to incorporate it into your marketing strategy. If you’ve already tried and decided that TikTok isn’t for you, it might be time to look again.
What Makes TikTok so Important?
It’s Growing at a Rapid Rate
As of January 2022, TikTok has 1 billion active users and it shows no sign of slowing down. Compared to juggernauts like Facebook which have been around for over 15 years, TikTok has only come on the market as recently as 5 years ago. In that short amount of time, it has become a social media heavyweight.
Not Just For Teenagers
A common misconception is that TikTok is only for the younger generation putting out videos of them doing the newest trending dance, whilst yes it might have started out that way, it hasn’t been the case for a long time. Currently, the fastest growing age group on the platform is the 30 plus range.
Greater Reach and Engagement
TikTok has already started to take some of the Meta (Facebook, Instagram) audience and that’s not going to stop, it wants more. It’s doing this by attracting advertisers and influencers alike. This in turn is giving TikTok an ever-growing reach and wider engagement than Meta-owned companies.
Range of Ad Types
TikTok offers a broad range of different ad types based on your current campaign objectives, whether it be lead generation, conversions, engagement, or simply increasing your following. Once you put some time into learning the mechanics of the platform, all of the objectives are easily attainable, you just need the know-how!
Live Streaming
One of the most powerful ways of connecting with your audience is broadcasting live on social media, and TikTok has made that easy! Once you have built your following to 1000 plus (which is not as daunting as it seems) you can go live whenever you like, and thanks to TikTok’s gift-giving system, there’s the potential to start earning money from it.
Targeting
As the user base has expanded, so has the targeting options. When Adam and Big Business Events started using TikTok, it wasn’t very comprehensive but now you can target people based on a wide range of interests as well as followed hashtags, and how users engage with creators.
It’s Video
For anyone who has attended any of our training events or is a part of our programs, you will know how often we drive home the importance of utilising video in your marketing. TikTok is an “infinite scroll” short-form video platform, and that’s how people are consuming content nowadays. It’s had so much of an impact that YouTube has had to adapt and have launched ‘Shorts’ and Meta have invested a lot more into their Reels, which is their retaliation to try to drive more traffic back to the platforms.
